Create A Spreadsheet

You can use ‘Music Collector Database’ to create a spreadsheet file. The file created is a csv (comma separated file). Each column is separated by a comma. A csv file can be opened in Excel and then saved as an xls file.

Because each column is separated by comma there must be no commas within the columns themselves.

For Example:

Abba, Greatest Hits would cause an error when opening the CSV file. Music Collector Database checks all the information and removes any commas when creating a csv spreadsheet file. So The Best, From The Seventies would show as The Best From The Seventies in the csv file, ie without the comma.

To Create A Spreadsheet.

Go to the Search screen and display the entries you want to appear in the spreadsheet. All entries displayed in the search grid will be added to the spreadsheet file.

Click on the ‘Create Spreadsheet’ drop-down menu and select ‘Create Spreadsheet Using Displayed Entries’.

The spreadsheet creation form will now be displayed. Tick the boxes for the columns you want to appear in the spreadsheet.

For Example:

If you only want the Artist Title and Condition to appear in the spreadsheet just tick those boxes. To create the spreadsheet click on the ‘Create Spreadsheet’ button at the bottom of the screen. Enter a name and folder location for your spreadsheet and click on the ‘Save’ button.

Your spreadsheet will be created. You will be prompted to decide if you want to view the spreadsheet or not. After opening the spreadsheet use ‘Save As’ to save the file as an xls excel spreadsheet file.

Path To The Excel.exe File

To display the spreadsheet file after it has been created you will need to enter the full path to the excel.exe file. The Program will try to auto detect the path and enter it in the box provided. If the box is empty you can manually add it yourself. After entering the path, click on the ‘Test’ button, Excel should start if the path is correct. If the path is correct, click on the ‘Save’ button. There are two other buttons called Path1 and Path2. Clicking on these buttons will enter two typical path names. The path name will be different depending on your version of Windows and Excel.
