Problems

Problems can occur for various reasons. If the Program has been running fine then you find you are having problems it could be down to your computer hardware. Maybe you don’t have enough memory or you are getting low on disk space.

If all the above are OK you could try de-installing the software and then reinstalling again.

If you are having problems, try opening another database file to see if the same problem exists with that database. If the other database is fine try repairing the suspect database file, see the separate help topic for repairing databases.

Some problems may be self-inflicted. You may for example have inadvertently changed a background colour to the same colour as the text. This would in effect make the text invisible.

There is a function that tests the database, tries to repair and compact it and restores all the default colours. If you are having problems, this would be good place to start.

To run this test select ‘Test Database And Restore All Defaults’ from the Utilities drop-down menu on the Main Menu screen.

The Restore And Test screen will now be displayed. The screen shows the test that will be performed and whether they were successful. To start the tests, click on the Test button.

One part of the test is to locate the start up file. This file is used every time the Program is started. It contains the registration number and the last four files you have used. If the Program suddenly starts asking for a registration number and the last four files are missing then you know the file has been deleted or become corrupt.

This part of the test shouldn’t fail If the Program fails to find the start up file it will automatically create another blank file so that the Program can continue.

When the tests are complete you will be asked if you want to rebuild all the Input form lists. Reply, Yes or No depending whether you want this task to be performed. See the separate help topic for Rebuilding Lists.

Out Of Memory

You may see this message displayed, it will probably cause the Program to end. Try shutting down other Programs that may be running. Remember there may be Programs running in the background, such as a virus scan or firewall that may be using a lot of memory. Hit Ctrl Alt and Del keys, a list of all processes running will now be displayed. There may be one or more that could be ended. There may be one that has gone into a ‘Not Responding’ state and this could be causing problems.

You may need to add more memory to your computer.

Try rebooting your PC to try and clear the problem. It is possible you may have a problem with the memory in your PC.

If your PC is sharing memory with a built-in graphics card on your motherboard, try releasing some memory from the graphics module. This may have to be done by changing a setting in the BIOS.

Print Problems

Normal printing problems may occur i.e. paper jam, paper out etc. Also if you try to print a vast amount of information you may have problems as well, especially if you are running out of disk space or you haven’t got enough memory. The Program may also go into a ‘Not Responding ‘ condition if there is insufficient memory.

To Cancel A Print Job

Exit the Program, click on Start. Select Printers, double click on the printer in use (normally the one with a tick). The current print job(s) will now displayed showing how many pages each job will use. To cancel a print job, select it from the list then click on Purge Print Documents from the Printer drop-down menu.

If The Program Hangs

In the unlikely event that the Program hangs, try closing the Program after hitting Ctrl Alt Delete (all at the same time) on your keyboard.

If you are experiencing strange problems, you may be low on memory. Try shutting down other Programs that may be running. If problems still exist, try rebooting your PC.
